How to get the Community Connect concession

You can apply for the concession now.

If you are already a Bee Card holder

  1. You must link your Community Services card to your Bee Card
  2. First register your Bee Card and then apply for Community Connect

You can go to an ORC office or a Bee Card retailer to buy a Bee Card, or ask your bus driver to purchase one (cash only). You can also order a Bee Card online. Remember to register it by going online:

  1. Go to the Bee Card website
  2. Select ‘Get a card’ and follow the prompts to log in or create a new Bee Card account
  3. Choose the Community Connect card type and your free Bee Card will arrive with Community Connect loaded
  4. Activate the card online when it arrives before you use it

Once Community Connect is set up you will receive half the adult card fare on all Bee Card services in Otago from 1 July.

Please note - If your Community Services card expires (expiry date is on the card), the concession will stop and you will need to reapply with a current Community Services card.

SuperGold Bee Cards

If you have a SuperGold Bee Card, do not apply Community Connect to your existing SuperGold Bee Card or you will lose your free off-peak travel.

You will need a second Bee Card to access Community Connect concessions.

You can go to an ORC office or a Bee Card retailer to buy a Bee Card, or ask your bus driver to purchase one (cash only). You can also order a Bee Card online. Remember to register it by going online here.

  • If you travel Off Peak on your SuperGold Bee Card, you already receive free travel, you can simply continue as you are
  • If you travel in Peak Times, and are a SuperGold/Community Services Card combo customer, you may want to apply for a new Community Connect Bee card
  • Use the Community Connect Bee card in peak hours to receive the discounted travel
  • The responsibility for using the correct Bee Card at the correct time rests with you
