Devils Bridge Wetland

Description:

Previously an ephemeral lake. After installation of a weir this area has become a permanent lagoon protected by a QEII covenant. It provides important habitat for many wetland bird species and is one of the few habitats of this type in North Otago. 1

Habitat for Marsh Crake (Porzana pusilla affinis), Banded Rail (Rallus philippensis), Australian Coot (Fulica atra australis), New Zealand Scaup (Aythya novaeseelandiae), White Heron (Egretta alba modesta), White-faced Heron (Ardea novaehollandiae novaehollandiae), Pied Stilt (Himantopus himantopus), Grey Teal (Anas gracilis), Black Swan (Cygnus atratus), Swamp hen/Pukeko (Porphyrio porphyrio melanotus) and others. 1
