Ways to pay your rates

Note: We are currently experiencing a high rate of enquiries. There is currently a temporary delay of up to 5 working days for ORC to action your direct debit request. You will receive a notification when the direct debit has been processed.

Set up (or change) a direct debit with ORC so you don’t need to worry about remembering to pay. With direct debit, you can either:

  • Pay the full amount owing by direct debit on the due date 31 October.
  • Pay in monthly instalments on the 20th of each month.
  • Pay in fortnightly instalments every second Wednesday.
  • Pay in weekly instalments every Wednesday.
  • Pay tri-annually in three equal instalments; on 31 October, 28 February and 30 June.

Rate penalties will not apply to current year rates using this option.

  • Online direct debit form - set up or change a direct debit via an online form. You can also adjust the direct debit payment frequency you would prefer by completing a new online form (this will replace any existing direct debit in place).

  • Manual direct debit form (print, manually fill in and post back to us, or email it) - you can complete a manual direct debit form and return it to our rates team via post or email.

If our online direct debit form is used, a manual form is not required.

Select 'Otago Regional Council – Rates' from your bank’s pre-loaded payees list and complete the fields as prompted. You can also manually set Otago Regional Council up as a payee.

Include your ratepayer surname and initial in the Particulars field, the assessment number (top right corner of your invoice and if you require a 6 digit number for internet banking please enter zeros in front of the assessment number) in the Code field, and the valuation number in the Reference field.
